The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) and Agridence Rubber Pte. Ltd (Agridence) inked a Technical Collaboration Agreement for a Pilot Project on the development of a Digital Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber.
The signing of this Technical Collaboration Agreement marks a new milestone for the rubber industry to integrate digital traceability systems to promote transparency and sustainability of the Malaysian natural rubber. The scope of the cooperation is to develop an integrated end-to-end trade and traceability system, that will streamline the transition towards regulatory compliance and sustainability, with the final goal to provide Malaysian Sustainable Natural Rubber (MSNR) to the stakeholders. This one- year project has started in 2nd October 2023.
MRB is active in digitalizing the domestic rubber supply chain through initiatives such as Rubber Transaction Authority Permit (PAT-G) for smallholders, RRIMniaga™ application for dealers, e-Rubber Processor (e-RP) for processors, and e-Rubber Manufacturer (e-RM) for manufacturers. This digitalization enables a partnership with Agridence, ensuring end-to-end visibility of natural rubber, furthering the MSNR initiative.
The government through the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities and MRB are committed to ensuring the Malaysian rubber industry able to meet the international sustainability requirements, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2030. MRB has embarked on several sustainable development initiatives throughout the industry value chain. Among the initiatives is the MSNR, which forms the cornerstone of Malaysia’s sustainability framework for natural rubber under the Malaysian Rubber Board (Incorporation) Act 1996 (Act 551). At this juncture, Malaysia will continue to enhance collaboration with major rubber-producing countries through international platforms, ensuring that both production costs and sustainability factors are integral to the rubber trade.
The pilot project between MRB and Agridence paves the way for an innovative and collaborative endeavor, focused on harnessing technology to facilitate extensive data sharing and the integration of digital traceability systems, essential for meeting international requirements on sustainability. Agridence and MRB will jointly establish a robust framework for seamlessly sharing and integrating data. This framework will encompass traceability data spanning the entire rubber production process, distribution, and processing. The integrated data will be linked with the Agridence Rubber Platform, where physical natural rubber trades take place between Malaysian rubber producers and buyers.
